Dwight l. macpherson
Dwight L. MacPherson is a storyteller drawn to the shadows—an award-winning writer whose work spans horror, mystery, dark fantasy, suspense, comics, and prose with cinematic intensity, unforgettable characters, and the kind of lingering unease that stays with readers long after the final page.
Born and raised in Michigan (Go Blue!), MacPherson is a former U.S. Army Combat Medic whose creative career has carried him from military service to the forefront of independent and mainstream storytelling. A Harvey and Eagle Award-nominated creator and recipient of the Poe Society of Baltimore’s Saturday Visiter Award, he is the co-founder of Hocus Pocus Comics and Mad Scot Media, where he continues to develop bold, genre-defying stories across books, comics, film, and multimedia platforms. His published work includes projects with DC Comics, Image Comics, IDW Publishing, and numerous other publishers.
Whether crafting graphic novels, supernatural thrillers, or darkly imaginative prose, MacPherson’s work consistently returns to one haunting question: what lies hidden beneath the surface of the world we think we understand?
Fueled by a lifelong fascination with secret doors, hidden tunnels, forgotten chambers, and the mysteries buried just out of sight, MacPherson’s imagination is deeply shaped by the literary shadows of Edgar Allan Poe, Rod Serling, Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and H.P. Lovecraft. Their influence can be felt throughout his work—where gothic unease, mythic depth, spiritual resonance, and unsettling revelation intertwine. Whether uncovering what was meant to remain hidden or guiding readers through worlds where reality itself feels uncertain, MacPherson crafts stories as invitations: step beyond the familiar, open the forbidden door, and discover what waits in the darkness beyond.
His debut novel, Welcome to Waadizi, Michigan!, marks a bold new chapter in his career, inviting readers into a deceptively quiet lakeside town where people disappear, memories shift, and reality itself may be far less stable than anyone dares to believe. It is the first step into a larger world of unsettling secrets, where beneath postcard charm lurks something ancient, hungry, and watching.
