The Writing Continues…
Winter is fun,
Fun for everyone.
Warm mittens.
Red and blue,
Yellow, green, and black, says Sue.
Mittens are pretty,
They’re very nice,
And you can use them
For picking up ice!

The other day, my mom gave me a folder of all my schoolwork from my 6th grade year. Dispersed throughout the binder between report cards, school IDs, hand-drawn maps, and social studies essays were poems I had written. I did not remember composing most of them, and it was interesting to rediscover my younger self at that age, when you are on the cusp of leaving a middle school setting behind for the pre-adolescent years of junior high and then high school.
Earlier in the year, we mentioned that I was working on a book of short stories and poetry. I still am; I was a bit sidetracked by the world of Waadizi, Michigan, and it was the best kind of sidetrack—the distraction I needed to come back to this project with a refreshed set of eyes. I am not sure if I will make that initial publishing deadline for fall, but I am forging ahead, and we’ll see where it takes us.
Keep moving forward,
Rebecca
